It will be cropped to px (). JPG, PNG or WebP; paste works too. Nothing is uploaded.

Your image is smaller than px, so it will be upscaled and may look soft.

Facebook banner sizes in 2026
"Banner" covers three different things on Facebook, and they do not share a size. A page cover is the wide strip behind the profile picture: 820 × 312 px on desktop, 640 × 360 on phones. An event cover is a 1.91:1 image at 1920 × 1005 px. A group cover is also 1.91:1 but displays at 1640 × 856 px. Using a page cover on an event, or the other way round, is the number one reason a banner ends up cropped.
| Banner | Displayed size | Ratio | Minimum | Best upload | Phone crop |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Page / profile cover | 820 × 312 | 2.63:1 | 400 × 150 | 1640 × 624 | 640 × 360, ~90 px off each side |
| Event cover | 1920 × 1005 | 1.91:1 | 1200 × 628 | 1920 × 1005 | ~16:9, a thin slice off each side |
| Group cover | 1640 × 856 | 1.91:1 | 820 × 428 | 1640 × 856 | shorter strip, top and bottom trimmed |
Page, event and group covers compared
Page cover (820 × 312). The widest of the three and the only one with something on top of it: on desktop the round profile picture overlaps the bottom-left corner and the "Edit cover photo" button sits bottom-right. Text belongs in the centre band, above the profile picture and clear of the corners. The same rules apply to a personal profile; see the cover photo checker for a desktop-versus-mobile comparison.
Event cover (1920 × 1005). Nothing overlaps it: the title, date and Interested/Going buttons live below the image. It is also the largest banner and is shown big in invitations and in the Events tab, so it rewards a proper 1920 px export. Because the ratio is 1.91:1 rather than 2.63:1, a page cover reused here loses a wide strip on both sides.
Group cover (1640 × 856). Same 1.91:1 ratio as an event, smaller display size, and the group name and member count sit underneath. On phones the group header is shorter than on desktop, so the top and bottom of the image are trimmed. Keep faces and text in the middle 70 % of the height.
How each banner is cropped on phones
- Page cover: phones show a 640 × 360 window, which is taller and narrower than desktop. Roughly 90 px disappear from the left and right, while 24 px of extra height appear top and bottom. The only area visible on both is the central 640 × 312.
- Event cover: the app shows the header closer to 16:9, so a thin slice (about 65–100 px of a 1920 px image) is lost from each side. The switch to the tool's safe zone marks that margin, plus a small top and bottom allowance for the desktop layout at unusual window widths.
- Group cover: the mobile header is a shorter strip. Expect around 70 px to vanish from the top and another 70 px from the bottom of a 1640 × 856 image; the sides are safe.
Turn on "Show phone-safe zone" above: the shaded strips are the parts that may be hidden on at least one device, and the dashed rectangle is where text and faces should stay.
Making a banner that survives every crop
- Pick the type first, then design. Set your canvas to 1640 × 624 (page), 1920 × 1005 (event) or 1640 × 856 (group). Do not design one image and hope it fits all three.
- Keep text inside the safe zone and at least 40 px tall on the full-size canvas so it is still readable at phone width.
- Leave the bottom-left of a page cover empty for the profile picture, and the bottom-right for the edit button.
- Export as JPG at 85–90 % for photos or PNG for flat colours and logos, in sRGB, under 4 MB. Facebook re-compresses everything, so a clean source matters more than a huge file.
- Download the 2× version when you have the resolution: Facebook keeps a larger copy for high-density screens and the banner looks noticeably crisper on a laptop or phone.
